The use of keyboard is quite old as we are using it from last 40 years to write the words, but it looks like that with the introduction of mind-reading machines, the era of the keyboards might be over. The mind-reading/brain-reading devices have the ability to identify certain thoughts and would be able to write the words that are related with the thoughts on computer or any other compatible device.
According to the latest research, by thinking about the physical objects, certain patterns of human brain activity sparked, such as a horse or a house. Researchers extracted this result from the fMRI brain scan, they are also trying to identify the brain activity shared by words related to some specific topic, for example, when a person thinks about "eye" or "foot", why the thinking of that person automatically goes to other words that are related to the body parts?
"The basic idea is that whatever subject is on someone's mind — not just topics or concepts, but also emotions, plans or socially oriented thoughts — is ultimately reflected in the pattern of activity across all areas of his or her brain," said Matthew Botvinick - psychologist at Princeton University's Neuroscience Institute.
There are some machines available that are using mind-reading technologies, and one of the technologies is locked-in syndrome that is used for the patients who are suffering from complete paralysis. This technology allows the patients to select one letter at a time to form words. Another lab prototype allows patients to create certain vowel sounds by using their thoughts.
These mind-reading machines will help the users to translate their thoughts and emotions in to words thus there will be need of typing. Still these types of machines are very rear, but I’m pretty sure that people will love this technology as it is very easy and fun to use(at least to me).
