Facebook Banned in Pakistan – Court directs authorities to block access to Facebook

The   Pakistani Lahore High Court   ordered the Pakistani authorities to block access to all sites, including Facebook, which are involved in “spreading religious hatred” and they decided to block Facebook on October 6 onwards.

In an order issued yesterday, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed led the Department of Information Technology “to deny access to all sites in Pakistan involved in spreading religious hatred.”



However, the judge ordered the Department access to Google,yahoo or other search engines not to be blocked.
He urged the authorities to submit a report on the implementation of the court order by October 6.
The judge made the order in response to a petition for a permanent ban Facebook in the United States to host a contest on cartoons of the prophet Muhammad blasphemous.
Lawyer Mohammad Azhar Siddique, who had filed the petition, said Islamic values ​​were insulted on behalf of the Access to Information and hurt the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.
Despite a previous order of the High Court, the Department of Information Technology had not blocked sites spread religious hatred, Siddique claimed.
Siddique also asked the Lahore high court to order the federal government to stop the display of unwanted material by any religion or insulting the Prophet Muhammad at all sites in Pakistan.
He said the government should be directed to establish a permanent authority of a legal status that could monitor these “criminal activities” in the world.
