Pakistani Cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi Reverses His Retirement Decision

 

After the retirement of Ijaz Butt, former Pakistani skipper and all-rounder Shahid Afridi has reversed his decision to retire from international cricket, saying he’s ready to play for Pakistan. His decision came six days after new Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Zaka Ashraf, assumed the office. Shahid Afridi  who led the country to World Cup 2011 semifinal, said he is happy to play limited-overs cricket for Pakistan.

Afridi told reporters.

“Since the board chairman has changed, I take back my retirement decision and am available to play for Pakistan, I had said I will never play with Butt as chairman, so things have changed now.”

Last week, President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Zaka Ashraf as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) replacing Ijaz Butt, who had developed serious differences with Afridi in May, 2011.

The 31-year-old all-rounder announced his sudden retirement from international cricket after being dumped as one-day captain following a row over selection with team coach Waqar Younis on tour in the West Indies back in May.

“The Ghazal King” Jagjit Singh Dies in Mumbai

 

Renowned Indian ghazal singer Jagjit Singh died in Mumbai this morning. He suffered brain hemorrhage and got admitted in Lilavati Hospital on September 23. His funeral will take place tomorrow at the Chandanwadi Crematorium in Mumbai. He had been on life support for the last few days and doctors kept him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 70-year old Jagjit Singh was born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan on February 8, 1941. He had four sisters and two brothers and he was known as Jeet by his family.

Jagjit Singh, popularly known as “The Ghazal King”, cut more than 40 private albums and sang for innumerable Bollywood films. He along with his wife Chitra Singh created a duo for ghazal singing, and together they are considered to be the pioneers of modern ghazal singing.

During his early years, Jagjit went to Khalsa High School in Sri Ganganagar and studied science after matriculation at Government College, Sri Ganganagar and went onto graduate in Arts atDAV College, Jalandhar. He is a post-graduate in history from Kurukshetra University in Haryana.

In his life, Singh was awarded India’s third highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan (2003), and Teacher’s Achievement Awards (2006).

Another family member is expected and you already have a preschooler or a toddler at home who might not be ready to accept the good news. So as soon as you break the news to the toddler remind him that he was a baby once too and then eventually grew up, dig out some of the old baby clothes that you have put away for another day, show him some baby pictures of him and explain how good it was to have a baby around and excite them with the new of the arrival of a new baby.

After this news expect a little moodiness, it is natural to that while you are gradually proceeding towards the due date the difficulty of handling the toddler increases, you can’t even pick them up and this would make them feel that their life is being upended.
