Pakistani Cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi Reverses His Retirement Decision

 

After the retirement of Ijaz Butt, former Pakistani skipper and all-rounder Shahid Afridi has reversed his decision to retire from international cricket, saying he’s ready to play for Pakistan. His decision came six days after new Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Zaka Ashraf, assumed the office. Shahid Afridi  who led the country to World Cup 2011 semifinal, said he is happy to play limited-overs cricket for Pakistan.

Afridi told reporters.

“Since the board chairman has changed, I take back my retirement decision and am available to play for Pakistan, I had said I will never play with Butt as chairman, so things have changed now.”

Last week, President Asif Ali Zardari appointed Zaka Ashraf as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) replacing Ijaz Butt, who had developed serious differences with Afridi in May, 2011.

The 31-year-old all-rounder announced his sudden retirement from international cricket after being dumped as one-day captain following a row over selection with team coach Waqar Younis on tour in the West Indies back in May.

“The Ghazal King” Jagjit Singh Dies in Mumbai

 

Renowned Indian ghazal singer Jagjit Singh died in Mumbai this morning. He suffered brain hemorrhage and got admitted in Lilavati Hospital on September 23. His funeral will take place tomorrow at the Chandanwadi Crematorium in Mumbai. He had been on life support for the last few days and doctors kept him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 70-year old Jagjit Singh was born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan on February 8, 1941. He had four sisters and two brothers and he was known as Jeet by his family.

Jagjit Singh, popularly known as “The Ghazal King”, cut more than 40 private albums and sang for innumerable Bollywood films. He along with his wife Chitra Singh created a duo for ghazal singing, and together they are considered to be the pioneers of modern ghazal singing.

During his early years, Jagjit went to Khalsa High School in Sri Ganganagar and studied science after matriculation at Government College, Sri Ganganagar and went onto graduate in Arts atDAV College, Jalandhar. He is a post-graduate in history from Kurukshetra University in Haryana.

In his life, Singh was awarded India’s third highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan (2003), and Teacher’s Achievement Awards (2006).

After this news expect a little moodiness, it is natural to that while you are gradually proceeding towards the due date the difficulty of handling the toddler increases, you can’t even pick them up and this would make them feel that their life is being upended.

The Social Activist of Pakistan Abdul Sattar Edhi got nominated for Nobel Prize. While talking to media he said:
“It will be a great pleasure for me to get the Nobel Prize.”
On September 22, 2010 he was awarded honorary degree of Doctorate by University of Bedfordshire.

He is head of the Edhi Foundation, the world largest ambulance help service and charity. Together with his wife, Bilquis Edhi, he received 1986 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. He is also the recipient of the Lenin Peace Prize and the Balzan Prize.
Edhi was born in 1928 in Bantva in the Gujarat, British India. His family migrated to Karachi, Pakistan in 1947 and in 1951 he purchased a small shop where he opened a small dispensary with the help of a doctor who taught him basic medical care.

Two Faced Cat Living A "Normal" Life

 

CONWAY: Frank and Louie is the world's oldest two-faced cat, which is not to say he is deceitful or insincere.

Rather, the fluffy, gray feline with two mouths, two noses and three eyes, turned 12 years old this month, setting the record for "longest surviving Janus cat," Sara Wilcox, a Guinness World Records spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

The name "Janus cat" was coined by British zoologist Dr. Karl Shuker, based on the two-faced Roman god of transitions, gates and doorways.

Frank and Louie has a case of craniofacial duplication, an extremely rare congenital condition resulting from a protein with the odd name of sonic hedgehog homolog (SHH).
 



The disorder, also known as diprosopia, can cause part or all of an individual's face to be duplicated on its head. It has been recorded multiple times in the domestic cat (Felis catus), but few of the resulting two-faced kittens survive into adulthood, Wilcox said.

Frank and Louie was born on September 8, 1999 and his remarkable life will be commemorated in Guinness World Records' new 2012 edition, Wilcox said.

The cat's owner, a woman only identified as Marty who lives near Worcester, Massachusetts, has asked to remain otherwise anonymous. She was a veterinary technician in 1999 when a day-old, two-faced kitten about the size of her thumb was brought into her clinic to be euthanized.

"The normal life expectancy is one to four days for cats with this condition," because afflicted animals typically have other disorders and defects, Marty told a local radio station on Tuesday. "When he was first born, every day was a blessing."

She immediately adopted Frank and Louie and helped him get surgical procedures necessary for survival, she said.

The cat has one brain, so both faces act in unison. Two of his eyes -- the outermost ones -- are normal, while the middle eye is larger but doesn't function.

The cat eats on the right side, using Frank's face, which is connected to his esophagus, while Louie's nose twitches at the same time, his owner said. The cat shares a home with a big dog, another cat and a few birds, including a parrot that sings opera.

Marty told the local radio station that Frank and Louie is "actually more like a dog. He walks on a leash and he loves car rides." (Reuters)

The “Bigg Boss 5″ house is bright and nice thanks to a riot of colours – green, fuschia, yellow and more – and, due to its compact and transparent design, it is expected to spark riots among the 14 contestants participating in the Colors’ reality show.

The design by interior designer Shayam Bhatia is intentional, reveals Ashwini Yardi, programming head, Colors.
“We have made the house more compact this time around, so that people are more in each other’s face,” Yardi told reporters.
For 100 days, the contestants will be locked inside the 9,000 square feet house, which has been moved from the busy markets of Lonavala to the lush plains of Karjat. As many as 55 cameras have been placed inside the house to pry upon their activities 24×7.
The show, to be co-hosted by actors Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan, will go on air Sunday. The official list of participants is yet to be unveiled. However, names like Nihita Biswas, the Nepali wife of alleged murderer Charles Sobhraj, actress Pooja Bedi, TV actress Parul Chauhan, and even international boxing champion Mike Tyson are expected to be on the show.
From the design of the house, one can imagine that the tolerance level of the contestants will be tested to the hilt. Since the house is smaller as compared to previous seasons of the show, it barely leaves space for any housemate for privacy.
The jail, where indisciplined contestants can be locked, makes a comeback this season, and the much-used kitchen sink has been placed in the garden area to cause more inconvenience and create fiction between the participants.
The house also has a lot of glass, due to which one can view the entire expanse — from the entry of the house to the bedroom all in one go, including the outdoor and living section of the house.
The two separate bedrooms, in shades of green and fuchsia with a hint of white, brown and yellow, have no differentiation for the sexes. Maintaining tradition since last year, there’s a special bedroom for the head-of-house, who will get some luxuries and special privileges.
The open kitchen is connected with a dining room that extends to the garden area, and the outdoor area has gained more prominence with the pool area, the activity area, the gymnasium and the kitchen sink being placed there.
The house has a common washroom, as well as a common bath for male and female contestants.
The confession room, where the contestants get a chance to interact with the “Bigg Boss”, is done in shades of royal green.
